Music is one of the subjects offered by the Creative & Performing Arts faculty.
What subjects/courses do we offer?
In Years 7 and 8, the study of music is mandatory as per the NSW curriculum and syllabuses (NESA).
Prairiewood High School offers the following electives:
Stage 5 (Years 9 and 10)
Students have the opportunity to continue their study in Music during years 9 and 10. Elective courses on offer include:
- Music A (100 or 200 hour elective) for those who already play an instrument or sing and want to develop this talent
- Music B (100 or 200 hour elective) for those who want to learn to play an instrument
- Live Sound for those who want to learn about sound production, audio equipment, stage setup for lighting and sound for live productions
Stage 6 (Years 11 and 12)
Music can also be studies during years 11 & 12. Courses on offer include:
- Music 1 (ATAR) For those who have not studied Music as an elective in Years 9 & 10
- Music 2 (ATAR) For those who are experienced and skilled musicians in either performance or composition
- Extension 1 (ATAR) - this must be completed with Music 2
Students will follow the Music curriculum designated to best suit them and their year level.
