PHS Wins big at ESSI Money Challenge

heading

Last term over Weeks 6 and 7 (16th August 2021 to 27th August 2021 inclusive) ST5CO4E (Commerce) and a few students from other Commerce classes participated in the Suncorp ESSI (Earning, Spending, Saving and Investing) Money Challenge.

This national challenge is run by the not-for-profit Financial Basics Foundation. The challenge aims to develop financial literacy amongst high school students by getting them to participate in an online simulation designed to replicate real life financial situations.

Prairiewood High School performed exceptionally well with the following notable results:

1. Steven Nguyen placed 2nd nationally and 1st in NSW in the 16-18 age group. Steven’s 2nd place nationally earned him a $1000 cash deposit into a Suncorp Savings Account. His top placing in NSW earned Steven a further $200 EFTPOS gift card.

2. Kevin Nguyen placed 3rd overall in NSW and 4th nationally in the 16-18 age group. Whilst Kevin just missed out on prize money his performance, is exceptional nonetheless.

A big CONGRATULATIONS to Steven and Kevin for outstanding results. It is great to see that even in lockdown, education is happening and our students are still participating in many extra curricular events.

Thank you and congratulations also to their teachers, Mr Chandra and Mr J. Mtashar, for encouraging and facilitating this participation.

The Champion published an article on the boys.
